Handmade silver jewelry for the soul

handmade silver jewelry

Handmade silver jewelry full of love and beautiful childhood memories.

About a year ago I was thinking about new ideas to make jewelry and suddenly remembered some of the craft projects I used to make as a little girl.

What an amazing cascade of ideas came into my head. There were so many things I did at home back then that could somehow be reinvented for jewelry making.

And then I saw Marion Van Cruchten´s beautiful jewelry.

Inspiration for a jewelry collection

I saw Van Cruchten´s beautiful "forgotten memories" jewelry months ago and immediately felt identified with that collection.

I too have childhood memories of making daisy chains and blowing dandelions, she made me recall 25+ years of memories!

handmade silver jewelry Van Cruchten is a jewelry and product designer from the Academy of Fine Arts at Maastricht.

Her “forgotten memories” collection is jewelry with a recognizable influence of childhood memories. Her influences for this collection come together in the creation of an overblown dandelion, a daisy chain and blowing a giant chewing gum.

Here’s her daughter blowing away that marvelous dandelion ring. Thank you Marion for sending this lovely picture!

Jewelry making ideas from your childhood crafts

handmade silver jewelry Childhood crafts or games can be a major source of inspiration and ideas for jewelry making.

Van Cruchten´s jewelry is inspired by childhood experiences or moments, but you can take jewelry making ideas from craft projects you did when you were little.

I’m sure you’ll remember some of your own games and craft projects.

These are some projects I remember:

  • Origami
  • Crepe paper flowers
  • Pop stick pencil holders
  • Patchwork
  • Paper cut-outs
  • Painting stones
  • Pasta jewelry
  • Seed paintings
  • Paper dolls
  • Egg shell mosaics
  • Playing with a kaleidoscope
  • Playing jacks
  • Bubble stuff
  • Fuzzy felts
  • Flower pressing
  • Making collages
  • Tye-dye
  • Bead pegboards
  • Stencils
  • Spiral drawing (Spirograph)
  • Weaving
  • Pompon dolls
  • First octons
  • Connecta straws

Van Cruchten also makes beautiful jewelry using old supermarket coupons and even chicken bones.

Marion thank you! You can see more of her work at her personal web-site here.
